Three ways tours start
- Pickup included: the operator collects you from your hotel or rental, usually inside set zones.
- Pickup for a fee: pickup is offered, but costs extra, often for farther areas.
- Meet at the venue: you get yourself there. Adventure parks and river tours inland often work this way.
Staying at a Papagayo resort? See tours from Papagayo for how pickup works there. One example: Panache Sailing lists pickup from "Papagayo & Playa del Coco — extra charge, quoted on request" for its Private Sunset Catamaran from Marina Flamingo.
What to ask
- Do you pick up where I'm staying? Is it included?
- What time is pickup, and how long is the ride?
- If I drive, where do I park, and how early should I arrive?
- For beach departures: will I get my feet wet?
Resorts and gated areas
Some resorts have rules about outside drivers. Ask your concierge and the operator.
Roads
Map apps aren't always right on rural roads. One wildlife operator we list warns that map apps show roads that don't exist and gives its own routes. Follow the operator's directions.
